Description

During this kayaking course, essential safety skills are introduced to the student. This class focuses on assisted and self rescue, developing good judgment and use of safety gear, including paddle floats, rescue slings, VHF radios, and more. Most of this class is spent in the water practicing rescues. During the class, we follow the American Canoe Association Flatwater Kayak Safety and Rescue outline closely. If you need an ACA card to prove you’ve taken the course, we can provide one.

1 person: $150
2 people: $100 per person
3 people: $90 per person
4 people: $80 per person
5 people: $70 per person

Time: Morning: 9am to Noon Afternoon: 1pm to 4pm Evenings: 6pm to 9pm
Age limit: 13 and up. Must be 100 lbs.
Skill level: Beginners welcome.
Instructor to student ratio: 1:5 maximum.
Where to meet: Mink Lake or the Grand Marais campground boat ramp.
Reservations: Advanced reservation and payment required.
The weather in the northland is dynamic, and if our guides determine it’s too bad, we will change locations or reschedule the class. Classes go out in all weather conditions except thunderstorms. We’re going to be wet anyway.

  • Sample items such as tow ropes, strobes, VHF radio, flares and other safety items.
